Hi all! First, this blog will be moving to a new home soon. 6 petal Crafts is getting a brandy new site with a whole makeover. Can't wait to share it with you.
I have had a mirror that belonged to my grandmother for years. It's hung in every place I've lived. It has that old fashioned guilded look, with flowers detailed on it. Never my favorite look.
Here you can see the coloring of the mirror in its original state.
And here you can see some of the damage that's been done and repaired.
Well, in a burst of energy and inspiration, I decided to give the mirror a make over. I hunted through my paper stash, piling things into color families. I paused long enough on this teal/silver/red combination to decide to use it.
I tore up several pages of hand made paper, taped up the inside edges and set to work.
I tried to use the paper randomly but is that ever really possible? I did try to make sure the red didn't wind up bunched together but spread out. I think it gives more punch that way. The brown paper with colored stripes was the most difficult to work with. It was the stiffest paper and did not blend as well. But, I liked the brown paper. It kind of kept some of the original fell or color of the mirror.
The collage/decoupage is finished. I was thinking about attaching some kind of cording or something around the outside edge to finish it off, but haven't yet.
I like having my grandmothers mirror and I like that it has new look, new energy.
What do you think?
